Comparing to Sharm El Sheikh where all the dives are along the shore, Hurghada benefits from several small islands in a 10-15Km radius from the city. If it was not for all these islands the dives would be difficult since the area is subject to strong winds.
There are a variety of dives around the islands and you can find from shallow water dives on coral gardens up to scary drop-offs offering dives second to none.
Since few years the area has turned into a protected area and benefits the installation of mooring buoys from HEPCA (Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association) .
The islands and the barrier reef not yet designated as Marine Park are nevertheless protected and the same rules are applied, not to touch the coral, feed the fishes and not to forget avoid taking anything from the sea, either dead or alive.
